VolleyMob’s Freshman Of The Year: UC Irvine’s Scott Stadick

Coming into your freshman season is never easy and often times you have to wait your turn behind veteran upperclassmen, but 7’0″ Scott Stadick of UC Irvine stepped in and made an immediate impact this season. With his impressive rookie season, Stadick earns the VolleyMob Freshman of the Year.

Stadick came in third on the Anteater’s squad with 181 kills on the year, posting a .421 hitting percentage. In addition, Stadick was a defensive monster at the net, putting down a team-best by a landslide with 116 blocks on the year.

With his impressive blocking performance on the year, Stadick ranked fifth nationally with 1.19 blocks per set, also ranking sixth nationally with a .421 hitting percentage.

Stadick was named as an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American in his freshman campaign, earned the MPSF Freshman of the Year and MPSF Honorable Mention All-Conference honors.

Now, Stadick will take his talents to the beach to play with teammate Grant Friedman at the USAV Collegiate Beach Championships this weekend.

Honorable Mentions

There were too many amazing freshmen this 2017 season, other standouts this year were Paul Bischoff of Stanford and Hawaii’s Patrick Gasman.

Bischoff was named to the MPSF All-Freshman team and helped lead the Stanford this season as setter with 681 assists on the year while also picking up 108 digs. Bischoff set his career-best in assists against UC Santa Barbara with 55 assists while also picking up his best defensive performance in the same match with 13 digs.

Gasman contributed 144 kills on the year on a .380 hitting percentage while also adding an impressive defensive season at the net with 106 blocks.
