USAV Collegiate Beach Championships

The USA Volleyball Collegiate Beach Championships are underway. The 24 women’s teams have been divided into six pools, A through F. The top two teams in each pool advance as well as the highest four of the third-place pool finishers, based on their point ratios. Only American citizens were eligible to play in the tournament resulting in mixed pairs from several schools.

Long Beach State’s Rachel Nieto and Kobi Pekich rebounded after dropping the first set against Florida State’s Leigh Andrew and Brooke Kuhlman to win 19-21, 21-18, 15-8 and continued on to a straight-set win over LSU’s Olivia Powers and Katie Lindelow to end the day atop Pool D at 2-0.

USC’s Terese Cannon and Nicolette Martin split the day, topping Powers and Lindelow in three close sets to start the day, but fell to Andrew/Kuhlman 26-24, 21-10 in their second match.
