The World Tour event in Moscow featured a change of scenery for many of the players, in that it introduced snow volleyball to all players prior to the start of the competition. For many players, this is the first time they will have played snow volleyball and for others the first time they will have seen snow in their lives.
Brazilian Alvaro Filho expressed that this is the first time that he has seen snow in his life since he lives in the tropical country of Brazil. Since he has never been introduced to the icy conditions before, he was experiencing the pain of the cold in his nose and fingers but said it was awesome.
For other players like Martins Plavins of Latvia, they are used to these types of conditions, saying that it wasn’t event cold, despite the -5-degree conditions.
The goal of the FIVB is to make snow volleyball a part of the Winter Olympic Games, being the only federation on the planet to have a sport in both the summer and winter games.
