Top Four Men’s Teams Win First Round Of Main Draw In Seattle

The first day of the AVP Tour stop in Seattle has ended with the top-four seed of the tournament winning all matches on the men’s side of the tournament, while the #1, #2 and #4 seeds advanced on the women’s side.

The stop in Seattle will feature a $150,000 purse prize, with the potential to earn up to 750 points as the first place finisher. This is the second year the event will take place in Seattle, with the competition featuring three different players earning their first-ever AVP victories.

Women

Lane Carico and Lauren Fendrick took the #1 seed in the tournament, taking down Skylar Caputo and Sarah Pavan in their first match in straight sets 2-0, (21-14, 21-13) followed by the #9 seeded Karolina Marciniak and Kendra VanZwieten again in straight sets.

Betsi Flint and Kelley Larsen advanced on in the tournament with wins over Aurora Davis and Bree Scarbrough in two, following a sweep of Janelle Allen and Briana Hinga. Summer Ross and Brooke Sweat handled their competition easily as the #2 seeded squad, first with a win over Camie Manwill and Maria Clara Salgado then against Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes.

Kim DiCello and Emily Stockman were the only top-four team to not win all their matches. They were taken down by the sixth-seeded Jennifer Fopma and Kelly Reeves in straight sets.

Men

All four of the top teams advanced on in the tournament. Taylor Crabb and Jake Gibb took down Ricardo Santos and Chaim Schalk then Reid Priddy and Ed Ratledge, both in straight sets.

Theo Brunner and Casey Patteson advanced on as the #2 seeded team, with a three-set match over Piotr Marciniak and Roberto Rodriguez-Bertran 2-1, (22-20, 18-21, 15-12). Their next match was a straight set win over Jeremy Casebeer and John Mayer 2-0, (25-23, 21-17). The third-seeded Trevor Crabb/Sean Rosenthal took down Derek Olson and Jeff Samuels, followed by a three-set win over Phil Dalhausser/Adam Roberts.

Ryan Doherty and John Hyden moved on as the #4 seed, with a victory over Michael Brunsting/Chase Frishman in three sets, then a straight set win over Billy Allen and Stafford Slick.
