Former UCLA opposite/outside hitter Torrey Van Winden is changing out southern California for the northern side as she transfers into Cal Poly for 2017. The move reunites her with her sister, Adlee Van Winden, in San Luis Obispo.
The 6’3″ Van Winden was a freshman last season at UCLA and earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors. She was third on the team with 304 kills as she also totaled 209 digs, 69 blocks and hit at a .257 clip. With her UCLA teammates, Van Winden helped the Bruins to the Elite Eight and a 27-7 season. In addition to her indoor season, she was also a part of the UCLA Women’s Beach team.
Prior to her time with the Bruins, Van Winden played three seasons at Vintage High School near Cal Poly in Napa, California. She was named All-Monticello League every season, as well as 2014 League Offensive Player of the Year.
At Cal Poly, Van Winden figures to join both beach and indoor teams as she did with UCLA. She will look to push the Mustangs to further success after an 18-9 indoor season and a 15-23 beach season in 2016.
