Ahly Of Egypt Wins 12th African Men’s Club Championship Title

Ahly of Egypt was able to take home their record-breaking 12th African men’s Club Championship title with a 3-1, (20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-18) victory over Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel.

Prior to their 2017 victory, Ahly has collected another 11 titles dating back to their first in 1980 and most recently in 2015. Ahly now has six more title wins than Sfax (the team with the second most amount of wins) while Etoile have take just two title back in 2001 and 2002.

Ahly wasn’t able to take the first set of the match, with Etoile coming out strong in the match; however, they weren’t able to keep that streak going, dropping the next three and their chances at the title. The MVP of the match went to Ahmed Kotb, while Abdelhalim Abou earned Best Blocker and Mohammad Abdelmoneim won Best Receiver for the champions.

The bronze medal went to Bourj Bouaririj with a sweep over Libya’s Swehly 3-0, (25-21, 25-19, 25-20).

The top five in the final rankings are as follows:

  1. Ahly (Egypt)
  2. Etoile du Sahel (Tunisia)
  3. Bourj Bouaririj (Algeria)
  4. Swehly (Libya)
  5. Esperance (Tunisia)
