Ireland is currently unranked (0 points) in FIVB’s Senior Rankings for both female and male national teams. But things have taken a turn for the best recently, as an Irish Volleyball team will compete in a European Championship for the first time, as the country’s U16 women’s squad will head to the Faroe Islands to compete against Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, Finland and the hosts for a place in the Final Round of the European Championship for this age group.

Among the team’s masterminds is Jenny King, a former player, who helped set up the program three years ago (Cev.lu):

“There’s a great history of Volleyball in Ireland, and there is lots of activity happening in schools. This program was a way of developing and inspiring the girls to keep playing, training and leading an active healthy lifestyle. It’s a great opportunity for the girls to live everyone’s dream and play for their country.”

The team has set up a crowdfunding page to help it make it finance its tournament costs, which is expected to amount to at least €20,000 (about 23.5k USD). Contributors can access all information regarding the fundraising efforts by clicking HERE.
