Ankeny Centennial Wins Third Straight State Title

The Iowa high school state tournament has concluded and has crowned five state champions. The tournament took place at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

Taking the 5A crown for the third year in a row is the No. 2 ranked Ankeny Centennial over No. 1 Cedar Rapids 25-17, 25-20, 27-25. Ankeny was led by Kenna Sauer who put down 16 kills, while Olivia Sandquist added 11. From the back court Kylee Macke picked up 21 digs.

For 4A, Dubuque Wahlert took down Pella in three sets, 25-18, 25-16, 25-14. Leading the dominate effort for Dubuque was Mackenzie May with 21 kills on a .340 hitting percentage. From the back row, Krystal Tramel picked up a match-high 19 digs.

Taking the 3A crown is Dike-New Hartford who took down Union in a four set match, 25-18, 25-11, 233-25, 27-25. For Dike-New Hartford Baylee Petersen recorded a double-double with 20 kills and 21 digs. While Madison Lavenz added 14 kill and 13 digs for a double-double of her own.

To take the 2A title, Western Christian swept Waterloo Columbus Catholic, 25-17, 25-19, 25-23. Taking charge for Western Christian was K Winterfield with 14 kills on a .393 hitting percentage. Close behind was Ashtyn Veerbeek with 12 kills and a .478 hitting percentage.

Lastly, Janesville swept Hudson to take the 1A title, 25-10, 25-15, 25-20. Taking the strong hand for Janesville was Bree Thompson who posted 13 kills, while Kennedy Meister added nine kills and 15 digs.
