American Annie Mitchem has decided to begin her professional volleyball career with Lardini Filottrano in the Italian Serie A1 league as an outside/middle hitter.
This will be Mitchem’s first ever professional contract after finishing up her collegiate career at Irvine Valley College in California, before transferring to Hawaii where she graduated with a degree in sociology. While at Hawaii, she accumulated a total of 249 kills for an average of 2.37 kills per set on a .310 hitting percentage. Defensively, Mitchem also blocked a total of 91 balls for an average of .87 digs per set.
Prior to Hawaii, Mitchem had a tremendous career with Irvine Valley, where she helped the team to two consecutive state championships. In her senior season with the team, Mitchem was instrumental to the team’s undefeated 27-0 record on the season, dropping just seven sets.
Mitchem is originally from Texas, where she played club volleyball for Absolute Volleyball Academy.
Recently, Lardini Filottrano was promoted from the Serie A2 league to the Serie A1, the highest in the Italian volleyball circuit.
Congratulations Annie! Your mom is so proud I’m sure!!! All of TX is proud of you, girl!!!
Good to see Mitchem getting signed at the next level! People in Hawaii know her skill level, so no surprise here. Gonna miss her and Nikki (our two hammers) for the Wahine this year.
