This year’s 2016 TeamSnap/AVCA Division II National Player of the Year was awarded to Nebraska-Kearney senior right side Annie Wolfe.

The Division II awards banquet took place before Elite Eight play began in Souix Falls, SD. Wolfe had no idea she was receiving the award until it was announced. Wolfe is the second Loper to earn the award, after former middle blocker Erin Gudmundson did in 2005.

Wolfe will also be recognized at the AVCA All America/Players of the Year Luncheon on Friday, December 16th, this in conjunction with the 2016 AVCA Convention in Columbus, Ohio.

“We are thrilled an honored that Annie has received this prestigious award from the AVCA,” said head coach Rick Squiers.

Starting her career in the back row for the Lopers, Wolfe worked her way to starting right side last fall. She appeared in 472 of the 477 sets the team was apart of the past four years.

Wolfe was among the leaders in all key statistical categories for the Lopers, averaging 3.08 kills, 3.04 digs, 0.80 assists, 0.69 blocks and 0.19 aces per set also hitting for .380. Wolfe is ranked 17th in Loper history in career digs with 1,214.

“I love playing the front and back row. When I was a freshman, I was only in the backrow. I developed those skills my first two years and then I was put in the position to his last year,” said Wolfe during a post-match press conference last week.

On top of her AVCA award, Wolfe was awarded the 2016 MIAA Player of the Year, unanimous first-team All-MIAA, AVCA and Conference Commissioner’s Association All-Central Region and a D2 CCA second-team All-American.

Academically, Wolfe maintains a 3.59 cumulative GPA in her Business Administration major to be an MIAA Scholar Athlete and MIAA Academic Honor Roll qualifier.

This season, Nebraska-Kearney went 35-2 after their season ended in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament to Augustana (SD) in their 18th straight appearance to the tournament.. The team won the MIAA regular season and tournament titles.
