Iona’s Claire Archibald and Jessica Paolucci, and Niagara’s Jessica Streuer tabbed as MAAC Volleyball Players of the Week.

Player of the Week

Claire Archibald, Iona
Sr., Coto de Caza, CA/Santa Margarita Catholic

Senior outside hitter Claire Archibald continued her stellar play in 2018 leading the Gaels to a perfect 3-0 week and a first-place standing in MAAC play through the team’s first eight games. Archibald recorded 54 kills (4.5 per set) and 57 digs (4.75 per set) in the three matches. The California native hit .273 and posted three blocks and two aces, while returning 83 of a team-high 86 serves (96.5%). Archibald recorded two double-doubles and has posted 10 or more kills and 10 or more digs in all but two matches this season. The senior posted a season-best 23 kills and a career-high 35 digs in a win over Rider at home Wednesday night. The 35-dig effort was just the fourth 30+ dig game in the MAAC this season and the first by a non-libero. In a matchup of the two teams with the best record in the MAAC to that point, Archibald posted 22 kills and 14 digs in a win at Marist on Sunday. In between the two 20-plus kill efforts she posted nine kills and eight digs in a three-set win on the road at Siena where she broke Iona’s 16-year old program record for career attack attempts. Archibald recorded two of the MAAC’s four 20-plus kill efforts this week, including the lone performance in a four-set match. Archibald also earned honorable mention honors from VolleyMob for her efforts last week.

Libero of the Week

Jessica Paolucci, Iona
R-Jr., Lake Mary, FL/Lake Mary
Redshirt-junior libero Jessica Paolucci was a defensive stalwart for the Gaels in a perfect 3-0 week that positioned the Maroon & Gold as the top team in the MAAC standings after eight contests. Paolucci recorded 56 digs (4.67 per set) and was a perfect 70-for-70 on service receptions. The Florida native had two 20-plus dig efforts on the week with 22 versus Rider at home Wednesday, and 23 in a four-set win on the road at Marist to help Iona take over first place all alone. Paolucci also added 11 assists and three aces in the three matches.

Rookie of the Week

Jessica Streuer, Niagara
Fr., Yorba Linda, CA/Jackson County Comprehensive
Streuer had another solid weekend for the Purple Eagles as their starting setter. In a win over Quinnipiac on Saturday, Streuer recorded a career-high 61 assists. The California native had nine digs and two total blocks. In a sweep of Fairfield on Sunday, Streuer had a team-high 36 assists, while also adding 10 digs and three total blocks. On the weekend, Streuer averaged 12.12 assists per set and 2.38 digs per set.
