Arizona State’s Alexa Lister Playing on Same Court as Legendary Father

Arizona State junior middle blocker Alexa Lister may be in her first season with the Sun Devils’ athletics program, but that doesn’t quite mean she’s unfamiliar with the school. The Chino Hills, California native transferred from Louisiana Tech and is following in her father’s footsteps – Alton Lister was a member of ASU’s men’s basketball team from 1978-1981. He finished his collegiate career with a school record 148 blocks before going on to play 17 years in the NBA.

Lister’s job is to block as well, and while she hasn’t seen any action yet this season, at 6’4″ she’s the tallest member of the team – just like her dad was almost 40 years ago.

Alton Lister’s #53 hangs from the rafters of the 14,198-seat Wells Fargo Arena – and that’s where Alexa Lister now plays her college volleyball – under the same roof as her dad in the building built in 1974.

In the video below, Arizona State head coach Sanja Tomasevic talks about the important of getting athletes like Lister, who ‘bleed maroon and gold,’ back to the university.
