Arlisa Williams has resigned as the head coach of the Georgetown University women’s volleyball team, the school announced on Sunday. She was the head coach of the Hoyas for 12 seasons, compiling a 122-231 record.

“I’d like to thank Arlisa for her many years of service here at Georgetown, and her dedication to both the program and her student-athletes,” said Reed.  “We are losing an experienced coach with a passion for teaching, and I wish her well in her future endeavors.”

In Williams’ last season as head coach, the team finished 8-22, including a 2-16 record in Big East play. That left them tied with DePaul for both the worst conference and overall record in the 10-team Big East this season.

Since Williams took over Georgetown in the 2006 season, the Hoyas have finished in the bottom-half of the frequently-changing Big East. The team never advanced to the Big East Championship tournament in the Williams era.

Williams coached two players to back-to-back All-Big East selections: Dani White (2nd team, 2012/2013) and Vanessa Dorismond (2nd team, 2009/2010). Symone Speech was named All-Big East 2nd team as a sophomore last year, and could become Williams’ third-such honoree this season.

Georgetown returns 13 letterwinners from this year’s team for next season, including 5 starters.

Prior to Georgetown, Williams spent 4 years at the University of Florida, where the team went to 2 Final Fours and the 2003 National Championship game. She served as the program’s recruiting coordinator. Before that, she spent 2 seasons at American University, where the teams went 52-8, and 2 seasons as a graduate assistant at Virginia Tech.

Williams was a 3-time All-Big Ten middle blocker from 1990-1992. As a senior, she broke Wisconsin career records for blocks, kills, and solo blocks.
