Victoria’s Uni Blues took home their fourth women’s Australian Volleyball League final over the Queensland Pirates in a sweep, while the men’s Pirates revenged a loss last year to Canberra Heat.

The Uni Blues, led by head coach Shannon Winzer, accomplished the one-sided victory over the Pirates with the help of several Australian team members. Strong performances came from Hannah Martin, Shae Sloane and Jamie-Lee Morrow.

“At the start of the year, we really wanted to get the fourth one and do something that no other club has ever done,” said Sloane.

On the men’s side, the Pirates took down the Heat, revenging last years loss to the squad. The addition of former Volleyroo and finals MVP Benjamin Bell, the Pirates were unstoppable.

For the bronze-medal, the VVA Vultures upset Adelaide Storm 3-1 in the men’s competition, while the Sydney Amazons, in their first season with the AVL, took down WA Pearls 3-0 on the women’s side.
