AVCA Announces 2017 High School Coaches Of The Year

The AVCA has announced their selections for the AVCA High School Coaches of the Year awards – Zach Young (Lafayette High School) and Alexis Glover (Wando High School). Young and Glover will also coach the West and East teams, respectively, at the Under Armour All-America match that will take place on December 15 during the NCAA Tournament.

The two will be formally honored as the National High School Coaches of the Year at the 2017 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon at the NCAA Tournament on December 14. The luncheon is in conjunction with the 2017 AVCA Convention.

Zach Young

Young is in his seventh season with Lafayette High School where he accumulated a 35-3 and 6-0 in Class 4 District 3 record on the 2017 season. In addition, the team was able to advance to the Class 4 quarterfinals. Lafayette is ranked #2 in the state of Missouri from MaxPreps.

Young was named the 2016 USA Today National Coach of the Year, keeping a trend going. From 2011-16, Young won a state title in six consecutive seasons, with his first season being an assistant. This season, Young coached on 2017 Under Armour High School All-American Honorable Mention – Merry Gebel.

Young was a former setter at Lindenwood University.

Alexis Glover

Glover has been the head coach at Wando High School for 31 years and finished this season with a 48-4-1 record while remaining perfect in the region at 14-0. Her squad advanced to the Class AAAAA Championship in South Carolina and won her 11th Lower State Championship.

Glover was named the Region Coach of the Year 22 times and her team currently sits at #10 in the USA Today/AVCA Super 25 National Poll. In the state of South Carolina, Wando is ranked #2 according to MaxPreps. This season, Glover coached two 2017 Under Armour High School All-American Honorable Mentions – Keeghan Andrews and Brooke Meddars.

In her playing days, Glover played for South Carolina from 1977-1981,

This is the 10th year that the Under Armour All-American Volleyball Match will take place.
