“Reid what is the best plyometric exercise to increase my vert”?

I get asked this question regularly.

Increasing your vertical is obviously very important for a volleyball player. But it is equally important to improve your jumping efficiency.

I classify someone as an athletic jumper if they are able to do the following:

  • Get off the ground fast
  • Have a fluid arm drive
  • Properly loads their hips
  • Jump and land with their feet under their hips and knees inline with toes (knees do not collapse inwards)
  • Land toes followed by your heels
  • Land quietly and soft

Hurdle Jumps is one the best vertical gaining and jumping efficiency exercises because it helps you improve on all of the above…

Check it out…

If you are in a busier time of the volleyball season then perform 4 sets of 5 jumps (20 total jumps) resting for 60 seconds between sets. You do not want to do too much additional jumping when you are in-season so keep the volume of jumps on the lower side.

If you are in your Off-Season perform 6 sets of 5 jumps resting for 60 seconds between sets.
