Boise State and New Mexico Face for MWC Match in Albuquerque; Sep. 28 Preview

Every day at VolleyMob we will preview several of the most notable and interesting matches in NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball. We will offer an inside look at some of those top matchups each day as we carry along through the 2017 season.

Although Wednesday is technically known as hump day, in the volleyball world it mine as well be Thursday because it serves as one last day before the weekend of a filled schedule. Yesterday featured an action-packed day with several ranked teams in action while today sees 31 total matches with a majority featuring non-Power Five schools competing for conference positioning.

THE BIG MATCH:

Boise State (9-5) at New Mexico (9-5) – 9 pm ET (MW Network/Live Stats)

The match of the day features two 9-5 teams from the Mountain West Conference looking to jockey themselves in strong positioning towards a conference crown.

The visitor, Boise State, comes in at 9-5 but 2-0 in conference play. Ever since they lost in five sets to Minnesota and were swept by Oregon State, they’ve won all nine sets they have played in, including their six last week. Watch out for Sierra Nobley in the match as she leads the team with 4.88 kills per set and is second on the team with 2.86 digs per set.

New Mexico had an 8-4 non-conference slate before splitting their first Mountain West matches last week. The win came in a sweep at Wyoming while the loss was a respectable one to a ranked Colorado State bunch. Lauren Twitty will look to continue her strong play as she is averaging 6.50 kills, 2.0 digs and 1.0 blocks per set through two matches of conference action.

OTHER NOTABLE MATCHES:

Syracuse (9-6) at Duke (10-3) – 6:30 pm ET (ACC Network Extra/Live Stats)

Duke earned a pair of wins to start their ACC season over Wake Forest and Boston College as they now continue their four-match home stand against Syracuse. The Orange were up and down in the non-conference slate as they opened up ACC play with a win over Boston College before falling to a solid Pittsburgh squad. With the ACC wide open, both of these teams will look to take advantage of this one and prove they can stick around the top.

Pacific (7-7) at Pepperdine (9-6) – 10 pm ET (WCC TV/Game Tracker)

Gonzaga (7-7) at Santa Clara (7-8) – 10 pm ET (WCC TV/Live Stats)
