Central Connecticut’s Henderson Named NEC Rookie Of The Week

Central Connecticut freshman Emma Henderson was named Molten/Northeast Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week it was announced by the league on Monday. Henderson helped the Blue Devils to two wins over the weekend as CCSU extended its win streak to four games.

Henderson started the first two matches of her collegiate career in the Blue Devils’ 2-0 weekend with wins over Saint Francis U and Robert Morris. The rookie from Prairie Village, KS averaged 2.86 kills, 0.71 digs and 0.57 blocks while hitting at a .269 clip over a span of seven sets. Henderson matched a career-high with 13 kills against RMU and also added three service aces in CCSU’s sweep of the Red Flash on Friday.

Henderson is the third Blue Devil to earn the league’s weekly rookie honor this season. Classmate Eline van Heijningen won the honor last week on Oct. 9, while Samantha McCreath earned the award on Sept. 5.

CCSU, which is 12-6 overall and 5-2 in the NEC, is back in action on Friday night in Detrick Gym. The Blue Devils, currently second in the NEC, host first-place Bryant (15-9, 6-1 NEC) for “Dig Pink” night at 7:00 p.m.
