China was able to secure the third place finish at the Montreux Masters over Argentina in a four-set match-up. The reigning Olympic champions and world rank #1, according to the FIVB World Ranking took down #10 Argentina in a hard-fought match

The first set of the match was a close, hard-fought battle, with the Chinese side coming out on top. China was able to hold onto that momentum going into the second set to dominate 25-12 over the Argentinian squad. With the 2-0 lead, China relaxed, slightly to allow Argentina that opportunity to squeeze back into the match with the third set win, sending the match into a fourth set. The Chinese crew was able to handle Argentina in the fourth set to take the match and the bronze medal.
Statistically, China led over Argentina in almost all categories, but not by much. The one stat that helped China with the win was Argentina’s errors, as they had 22-9 in the match.
Leading the scoring for China was Xiangyu Gong with 17 while Yi Gao added another 12 including six blocks.
For Argentina, Paula Yamila Nizetich put down a match-best 23 points, but it was not enough to propel the team to victory. Elina Rodriguez added another 12 points for the team, all off kills.
