Where Do the Conferences Sit in the NCAA DI-II Men’s Rankings?

Some leagues have already begun the conference portion of the season – or at least dipped into it – while others are just getting underway this or next week. Regardless, as we nosedive into the schedule with an emphasis on conference matches, this is how the lay of the land sits in the overall rankings:

VM Top 20 VM Avg. Rk AVCA (15) AVCA Avg. Rk
MPSF 7 12 5 8.8
Big West 6 8.2 5 6.6
MIVA 4 8 4 8.3
EIVA 3 15 1 9

You can come to term with what you want to display the title of best conference in the country based on these numbers. In the Big West, you have three of the top four, but the MPSF has slightly more depth. Is that depth of teams ranked in the 10-20 range enough to usurp them as the top conference? Regardless, it seems as if the two west coast leagues are sitting atop the conference rankings.

In the central and eastern side of the country, the MIVA has established itself as one of the best leagues as well. It’s another argument of depth vs. top heavy as its four ranked teams are all in the top 12. However, no other team sits in the VolleyMob Top 20.

Things should be interesting once conference standings and matches get weighted into the rankings, but as things stand right now we should be in store for quite the late night action on the west coast and across the country.
