Concordia St. Paul senior Anna Schlaak has been named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2016 NCAA Division 2 Women’s Volleyball Championship after leading her team to a dominant win in Saturday’s championship game.
Schlaak was one of 4 Golden Bears named to the all-tournament team – with nobody else putting more than two players on the team.
The redshirt senior started off slow in the tournament, hitting just .227 and .167 in her first two games (although the later game with 18 kills on a whopping 54 swings in a 4-set win over Winona State). After the team got out of the first two rounds, however, she heated up – hitting better than .300 in each of her last 4 games of the season.
Schlaak had double-doubles in 3 of her 6 NCAA tournament games. In the last game of her collegiate career on Saturday, she had 10 kills, hit .421, and also dug 7 balls. In total, she finishes her career as one of just five players in CSP history to have 1000 kills and 1000 digs.
Her teammates Riley Wilson, Emma Lange, and Kasey Williams, all seniors, were also named to the first team. CSP defeated Alaska-Anchorage 3-0 in Saturday’s Championship game (25-19, 25-12, 25-12).
