Cuba, Costa Rica To Hold NORCECA Qualifying Events For Youth Olympics

The NORCECA Qualification Beach Volleyball Tournament will take place in Cuba and Costa Rica this May for the 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games.

The event in Cuba will take place at the National School of Volleyball in Havana, Cuba from May 25-28 while the event in Costa Rica will be played from May 8-12. For the Cuba event, it will host the NORCECA Central Zone which includes the USA, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Cuba while the tournament in Costa Rica will have representatives from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Belize and Costa Rica.

For both events, players must be born within the year 2000 and 2003.

The Youth Olympic Games will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from October 6-18 that will include 31 other sports but not indoor volleyball. A total of 3,998 athletes from 306 countries are set to compete. The winning pair from each gender at each event will earn their ticket to the Youth Olympics.

This is the third edition of the Youth Olympic Games and the first time the games will be held outside of Asia or Europe. For the games, it is unclear if Russia will still be able to participate in the wake of their doping scandals associated with the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games.
