At the 2017 Women’s U20 Pan American Cup, Cuba and Puerto Rico emerge as winners of their pools, moving directly to the semifinals.
Cuba was able to take down Peru in a four-set match 3-1, (29-27, 26-24, 18-25, 25-15) with the match starting off as a battle, but ended easily for the Cubans to take Pool C. Heidy Casanova put down a match-best 25 points to lead Cuba. Puerto Rico swept Costa Rica 3-0, (25-19, 25-19, 25-15) to take Pool B. Loraine Lopez led the Puerto Rican squad with 10 points in the win.
In Pool A, the United States took down the Dominican Republic in a four-set match 3-1, (25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21) to win Pool A. Elizabeth hall and Regan Pittman led the scoring for the Americans with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

In Thursday’s quarterfinal matches, Argentina will face Peru in a crucial match to claim the ticket available for the best ranked South American team to the U20 FIVB World Championships. The United States will take on Uruguay.
The tournament is a qualifier for the FIVB U20 Volleyball Women’s World Championships that will take place in Mexico from July 14-23. The top-two teams of the competition will earn tickets to the World Championships. The Dominican Republic have already qualified for the event as the NORCECA champions.
