Danielle Cuttino’s 21 Kills Leads Purdue To 2nd Round

The Boilermakers showed they deserve to be in the tournament, proving the selection committee right, despite having a lesser record in the Big Ten then Illinois or Iowa.

Purdue advances to the second round where they will face off No. 15 Missouri on their home court.

The first set was a back and battle, where Purdue was down late in the match 23-12, but kills from Danielle Cuttino and Blake Mohler tied up the set. Facing set point at 24-23 in favor of ISU, Azariah Stahl put down two kills and a block to take the first 26-24.

The second set was much the same, back and forth scoring. Late in the match, Iowa State went on a 4-0 run to go up 17-16. The Boilermakers fought back to take the second 25-21. The third set was a cake walk for Purdue, as they hit for .522 in the set, dominating the Cyclones 25-13 to complete the sweep.

For Purdue, Cuttino put down an impressive 21 kills in the three set victory on a season-best .613 hitting percentage. Sherridan Atkinson added 10 kills, hitting for .529, while Natalie Haben picked up 10 digs.

Leading the Iowa State offense was Samara West with 10 kills on a .600 hitting percentage and Jess Schaben with nine, while Hali Hillegas picked up a match-best 16 digs.
