After four seasons at the helm of the Laguna Beach High School boys volleyball coach, Darren Utterback has announced his resignation from the program.
At LBHS, Utterback coached the indoor boy’s team along with the school’s beach program. Utterback had a lot of success with the program, starting at the school as the school’s JV coach where he went 21-1 while capturing the OC Championship to cap off the season.
The following season, Utterback took over the varsity program, where he took the squad to the Division 2 CIF finals, followed by back-to-back State CIG Regional title in 2014 and 2015. In 2016, LBHS moved up to Division 1 play, where the team took the Trinity League championship after a strong win over Mater Dei in the playoffs, followed by a loss to the eventual state champions Corona del Mar in the quarterfinals.
Overall, Utterback led LBHS to a 67-18 record indoor and 40-0 in league play and 11-4 post-season record. With the beach program, Utterback saw the squad to a 29-6 record in four seasons, making the finals each season with one title.
This upcoming club season, Utterback has joined the LBVBC, where he will help coach the 16s team.
