Dayton’s Lauren Bruns Earns Atlantic 10 Player Of The Week Honors

This week’s Atlantic 10 Player of the Week is Dayton’s Lauren Bruns while Rhode Island’s Marie Gillcrist and VCU’s Jasmin Sneed earn Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Rookie of the Week comes out of Saint Louis in Maya Taylor.

Bruns was the driving force for Dayton this past week, averaging 4.69 kills per set. Bruns posted a career-best 22 kills in the Flyers sweep over Northern Illinois, where she also hit for .600 in the match. Against Western Kentucky, Bruns posted 14 kills while adding another 15 against Ohio State. For the week, Bruns averaged 4.92 points per set while hitting .358.

It was a big week defensively for Gillcrist and Sneed, as they both posted high blocking numbers. Gillcrist blocked 19 balls for an average of 1.46 blocks per set, with 12 of the blocks coming against Dartmouth for a career-best. Additionally, Gillcrist posted 18 kills, 12 digs and averaged 2.42 points per set. Sneed, on the other hand, posted 20 blocks during a 4-0 weekend for VCU while adding 23 kills and a .265 hitting clip.

Taylor was named the Rookie of the Week after leading Saint Louis to a 3-1 week, recording 61 kills for an average of 3.81 kills per set on a .299 hitting percentage while also blocking six balls.
