Denver is tacking on junior college recruit/transfer Katie Mahoney for 2018. Mahoney was a sophomore in 2017 at McHenry County College and will be an immediately eligible junior come the fall of 2018.
A 6’1″ outside hitter and right side, Mahoney attended Jacobs High School in Illinois before coming to Eastern Washington as a freshman where she started eight matches and appeared in 21 sets, averaging 2.36 kills per set to go with 36 digs, 13 blocks and four aces.
The story gets a bit odd after that, as Mahoney was initially transferring to UW-Milwaukee, and was even announced in a school press release to go to the school. For whatever reason, she instead ended up going to McHenry County College.
Mahoney was a star piece on a Scots team that went 28-16 and won their conference championship. Individually she earned a spot on the 2017 Women’s Volleyball Region IV First-Team.
It’s the second transfer addition for Denver this offseason, as they also tacked on former Colorado RS/S Taylor Joachim. They’ll be looking to build off another strong season in which they went 23-6 and 12-2 in winning a Summit League Championship for an NCAA Tournament appearance. They’ll look for Mahoney to contribute right away as two of their outside hitters graduate.
