Former New Mexico outside hitter Devanne Sours has signed a professional contract to play for GS Ilioupolis in the Greek A1 Ethniki League. Ilioupolis, which plays its home matches in Athens, finished the 2016/2017 regular season in seventh place of the 12 teams in the top league in Greece, falling just short of the league semifinals.
In the 2016 season for New Mexico, the 6’2” Sours accumulated 411.5 total points on 362 kills, 25 aces, 46 blocks. In addition, she collected 188 digs. In total, her four year total of 1,000 career kills ranks 13th all time in New Mexico women’s volleyball history. The Lobo indoor volleyball team finished the regular season with a 16-16 record (6-12 in the Mountain West Conference), falling short of qualification for the NCAA Tournament. She helped lead the Lobos to 76 wins in her time at the school.
Sours also played beach volleyball for the Lobos for three seasons, including 2015, the inaugural season of beach volleyball at New Mexico. She finished her career with 39 wins including 20 in her senior season.
Olympiacos is the five time defending champion of the Greek A1 Ethniki League, having defeated Pannaxiacos in the final to win the 2016/2017 season. Panathinaikos has won a record 23 of the 47 championships in the league which originated in the 1970-1971 season.
