Ebony Nwanebu Earns Big 12 Offensive Player Of The Week Award

Four repeat honorees, Ebony Nwanebu (Texas), Hali Hillegas (Iowa State), Tayler Soucie (Kansas) and Micaya White (Texas) are honored with Big 12 accolades heading into week 14.

Nwanebu notches her second Offensive Player of the Week this season while Soucie earns her fourth career recognition after earning the Co-Defensive Player of the Week. This marks the second time Hillegas has been named Defensive Player of the Week and is the only freshman this season to be awarded the title. White picks up Freshman of the Week for her seventh nod of the season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ebony Nwanebu, Texas, Jr., OH, Fairview, Texas/Lovejoy

  • Led the Big 12 hitting efficiency during week 13, converting on .585 percent of attacks.
  • Made good on 10-of-16 attempts for a .625 hitting clip against K-State on Saturday.
  • Owns a league-leading .369 hitting percentage.

CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hali Hillegas, Iowa State, Fr., L, Charles City, Iowa/Charles City

  • Tied a Big 12 conference-season record with 33 digs at Kansas and tied for third-most digs by a league player in a match this season.
  • Notched her 15th consecutive match with at least 10 digs, posting double figures in all 14 of ISU’s conference matches.
  • Finished the week averaging 6.60 digs per set, topping the conference for week 13.

CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tayler Soucie, Kansas, Sr., MB, Osawatomie, Kan./Osawatomie

  • Earned seven blocks at West Virginia and nine blocks during her Senior Day match against Iowa State to help clinch KU’s first Big 12 title.
  • The 2016 Big 12 Female Sportsperson of the Year recorded 16 blocks to co-lead the Big 12 last week.
  • The middle blocker has recorded six or more blocks in five straight matches and currently ranks second in the Big 12 in blocks per set (1.25).

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Micaya White, Texas, OH, Frisco, Texas/Centennial

  • Led Big 12 freshman in hitting percentage (.349), blocks (eight) and service aces (two).
  • Averages 4.67 points per set, good for second-best in the conference this season.
  • Added 25 kills and 16 digs in the Longhorns’ two victories.
