On the heels of leading Fairfield University Volleyball to a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) home victories this past weekend, senior co-captain Skyler Day (Minooka, Ill.) has been recognized as the MAAC Player of the Week. Day hit .433 on the outside en route to 5.00 kills per frame in straight-set wins over Manhattan and Iona.

Day is the only player in the conference with three MAAC Player of the Week nods this fall. She also earned the honor three times in 2016 on her way to MAAC Player of the Year laurels.

“I thought Sky had one of the better weekends of her career here at Fairfield.  Anytime you hit over .400 with only four errors over an entire weekend, you’re doing some great things,” said Head Coach Todd Kress. “I attribute her level of play lately to the fact that she’s getting healthy and closer to 100 percent, coupled with her unwavering determination to be the best she can be for her team.”

In addition to her 5.00 kills per frame on .433 hitting (30-4-60), Day contributed to the defensive effort with 3.33 digs per stanza. She completed a double-double with  12 kills (.367) and 11 digs in the sweep of the Jaspers and fell just shy of another double-double with 18 kills (.500) and nine digs the following day as Fairfield dispatched Iona in straight sets. The 2017 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year filled out the statsheet with an assist, two service aces and a pair of blocks.

For the season, Day leads the MAAC with 3.76 kills per set and ranks second in the conference with 4.01 points per frame. Her 30 kills over the course of this past weekend vaulted her to eighth all-time in Fairfield history with 1,188 career kills for the Stags.

After their unbeaten weekend on George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall, the Stags are 16-6 overall and 11-0 in the MAAC. Fairfield will bring its 12-match winning streak to Quinnipiac on Friday, Oct. 27 for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Bobcats.

Action returns to campus on Wednesday, Nov. 1 for a 7 p.m. visit from Marist.
