Il Volley Potentino has signed 22-year old, 201cm (6’7″) middle blocker Luca Bucciarelli for the 2017-2018 season. Bucciarelli is viewed as a high-potential prospect, having grown up in the youth ranks of Sir Safety Perugia since making the late switch from soccer to volleyball at the age of 17.
Bucciarelli spent time in Italy’s Serie C with the U19 squad of Sir Safety, which included time on various international tours and on the selection lists for the senior side. Last year, he made a big move on loan with Orvieto in Serie B2 (remembering that this is only now 4 years into his volleyball career at any level), and his performance there attracted the attention of Serie A2 side Potentino Picena.
The club finished just 6th last season in Italy’s Serie A2, the second tier of volleyball, . He joins as the tallest middle blocker in a front line that includes Lorenzo Codarin and Omar Biglino, who ranked just 12th and 10th, respectively, among middle blockers in A2 last season.
