2019 European Championship Final Qualifying Tournament – WOMEN

The final leg of qualifying for the 2019 CEV Women’s European Volleyball Championships began this Wednesday with 12 games of action. Here is the day’s recap:

  • Belgium vs. Iceland 3-0 (25-4, 25-8, 25-10) – Pool A
  • Slovenia vs. Israel 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-22) – Pool A
  • Croatia vs. Albania 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-17) – Pool B
  • Austria vs. Switzerland 1-3 (25-18, 13-25, 11-25, 19-25) – Pool B
  • Ukraine vs. Norway 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-19) – Pool C
  • Greece vs. Montenegro 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-15) – Pool C
  • France vs. Denmark 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-21) – Pool D
  • Georgia vs. Portugal 0-3 (11-25, 11-25, 16-25) – Pool D

Stats of the Day

  • Sweden’s Isabele Haak and Estonia’s Kristiine Miilen led the day’s scorers with 27 points each
  • Greece’s Anthi Vasilantonaki and Switzerland’s Laura Kuenzler had 5 aces each
  • Switzerland’s Gabi Schottroff had 5 blocks
  • We are still checking, but Iceland’s 25-4 set loss to Belgium might just be the worst defeat a team has suffered at this level of play.
  • Norway travelled to Ukraine with a very young team – the oldest player being Marianne Steen Knudsen (27) and all others born between 1996 and 2000.

  • Scandicci’s Isabele Haak topped the day with 27 points on39% hitting
  • Croatia’s Samanta Fabris had 14 points on 57% hitting
