Redshirt junior Katie Horton and freshman Francesca Goncalves earned CCSA Pair of the Week honors after posting a 4-0 record this past week.
Horton and Goncalves helped lead the fourth-ranked Seminoles to a 3-1 record this past weekend at the Hawaii Outrigger Invitational at Honolulu, Hawaii. Three of their four matches came against Top-10 teams including two 3-2 wins over No. 7 Arizona and No. 5 Hawaii.
The Seminole duo, who played at the number four position all weekend and for the first time together, went 4-0 and were responsible for FSU’s only point in a 4-1 setback to No. 1 Southern California.
Horton and Goncalves opened the tournament with a three-set victory over Arizona’s Hailey Devlin and Sam Manley, 21-15, 18-21, 15-12, before another three-set victory over Hawaii’s Ari Homayun and Carly Kan, 21-12, 11-21, 15-12. They finished off the weekend with two more three-set victories over USC’s Abril Bustamante and Joy Dennis, 21-11, 12-21, 15-13, and Nebraska’s Mikaela Foecke and Kenzie Maloney, 21-9, 18-21, 15-7.
This also marks the second week in a row that a Seminole pair has won the CCSA Pair of the week award (Victoria Paranagua and Macy Jerger).
