Italy’s A1 newcomers Chieri 76 has announced in its official website that it has extended ties with former California State standout Samantha Middleborn. The 2-time NCAA DII National Player of the Year came to the team last season, and in two months of play helped her new squad achieve promotion to Italy’s premier league. Previously, she had stints in France, Switzerland, and South Korea as a professional.
Here are Samantha’s first words after signing her extension:
“Playing in Italy, and doing it in the top league, was always a dream. My two months in Chieri were fantastic. The team, the coach, the staff were all very kind and fun. I am excited to be able to compare myself with the A1 level. And I love Chieri and the whole biancoblù family. My personal goals are becoming more constant and strong as central. I want to show myself and the volleyball community that you can have a family and keep playing professionally at a high level (Samantha has twins). And I want to help the team . I am very happy to come back to Chieri, we have the best fans from all over Italy. Let’s show the A1 how strong we can be together! We need 100% support from our fans.”
In addition to Samantha, Chieri has also recently added Cuban Gyselle Silva to its squad.
