Former Canadian women’s National Team captain Brittney Page has announced her retirement from competitive volleyball.
Page, who has been the Canadian captain since 2012, played with the national team for 2 FIVB Women’s World Championships, 7 Pan American Cups, and over 100 international matches.
“I’m in an interesting place in my life right now as I ease out of being a professional athlete,” Page said. “It’s exciting doing seemingly normal stuff now.”
Page competed professionally for teams in China, Italy, Austria, Spain, Finland, Belgium, and Germany in her long career.
“I’m trying to keep my options open and doing a lot of new things,” Page said as she looks to an unknown future. “I know volleyball and sport in general will always be a part of my life in some way, I don’t necessarily want to coach but I always stay involved on a local level and with the national team.”
With Page as captain, Canada has qualified to play at each of the last three World Grand Prixs after a 13-year absence from the event. they’ve also qualified to play at each of the last two FIVB World Championships (2010, 2014) after not qualifying in the one prior to Page’s joining the team (2006).
The 32-year old Page originally hails from Kelowna in British Columbia who played primarily opposite for the Canadian National Team.
