The accolades keep rolling in for Wisconsin’s Molly Haggerty. Wisconsin is currently the third-ranked team in the nation with an 8-1 record. Yesterday, September 19, Haggerty was named Big Ten Conference Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week, and today, she has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week. Haggerty is the first Wisconsin freshman and only the fourth Wisconsin player ever to receive the national award. A Badger hasn’t received the award in nearly a decade.

Haggerty receives the award after her stellar performances this weekend against No. 16 Texas A&M and No. 2 Texas. Against the Aggies, Haggerty set a school record with 27 kills in a three-set match (the previous school record was 19 kills). Incredibly, Haggerty’s mark of 27 kills also ties Wisconsin’s overall school record for a five-set match.

Haggerty followed up her performance against Texas A&M with 20 kills and 14 digs against the Texas Longhorns. It was a five-set come-from-behind victory for the lower ranked Badgers, and Haggerty played an integral part in the win (Wisconsin was ranked sixth when it played the No. 2 Longhorns). The match marked Haggerty’s third double-double of her young college career. In addition, Haggerty had a career-high 4 aces against the Longhorns.

Wisconsin will begin its in-conference season on Friday against No. 17 Ohio State.
