The German men’s Bundesliga quarterfinal matches have concluded sending four teams to the semifinals.
Friedrichshafen, Berlin, Rhine-Main and Duren advance on. The semifinals round is a best of three series, as was the quarterfinals, followed by the finals – that are yet to be determined, which will be best of five matches.
Friedrichshafen vs. King Wusterhausen
In the first match of the series, Friedrichshafen swept Wusterhausen 3-0, (25-17, 25-17, 28-26). Tomas Rousseaux earned the matches MVP honor. The first two sets were a breeze for the winning squad, but the third set was more of a challenge, going into extra points to secure the win.
The second match featured a tough five set victory for Friedrichshafen 3-2, (25-15, 24-26, 23-25, 25-12, 15-8). The second and third sets were grueling for the victors, leaving them behind 1-2 in the match, but they took their play up a notch to dominate in the final two sets to complete the series and their way into the semifinals.
Berlin vs. Buhl
Berlin grabbed the first match of the series 3-1, (25-18, 25-16, 18-25, 25-18). Berlin jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the match before dropping the third 18-25, quickly recovering to win in four 25-18.
The second match was a dominate three set sweep for Berlin 3-0, (25-20, 25-18, 25-17). Buhl struggled to keep up with Berlin – losing their chances at the semifinals as Berlin took the series sweep.
Rhine-Main vs. Ruling
Rhine-Main was able to completely sweep Ruling in the series 6-0 (three set sweeps in each match). The first match Rhine-Main took the match 3-0, (25-22, 25-20, 25-16) and in the second meeting 3-0, (25-16, 31-29, 25-22). Ruling fought back more in the second match, forcing a long second set.
Duren vs. Luneburg
Duren fought for the first match of the series in a five set battle 3-2, (20-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-15, 15-13). After dropping their first two sets, Duren rose their match play to take down Luneburg.
The second meeting between the two was a three set sweep for Luneburg 3-0, (25-23, 25-19, 25-21). The win for Luneburg sent the series into a deciding match.
The final match of the series went to Duren who took down Luneburg in four sets 3-1, (23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-19). Duren dropped the first set, but were able to recover take the next three sets.
