Being named as the head coach back in 2013, Orduna led the team to the qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in the South American Qualifying Tournament. This is the second time that Orduna has held the helm of the team, as he was previously the coach from 1991 to 1996.

“I am very happy for the confidence they have shown in my work,” said Orduna.

The Olympics were a starting point for Orduna’s team. It will be an upward challenge for the team to come in the next few years, who will look to requalify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

“It’s the challenge. It is necessary to modify, to rethink, to recompose groups and to mobilze the structure. That is where the challenge is,” said Orduna.

In 2017, Las Panteras has a busy schedule. The Pan-American Cup takes place in June, then there are the South American Championships. The start of the qualifying for the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championships that will take place in Japan are set to begin this year, as well.
