Spanish club Voleibol Alcobendas has announced in its official Instagram page that it has signed Hailey Murray to its roster. The 6’0″ middle blocker is transferring out of Austria and is set to undergo her first full professional season, as her time in Austria was very short lived, being signed at the end of the season by SG Prinz Brunnenbau to replace an injured player.
Murray spent four years with the Maryland Terrapins where she accumulated 818 kills for an average of 1.75 kills per set in her career. She also boasted a .286 hitting clip during her time with the Terrapins while posting a total of 401 blocks. In her final season with Maryland, Murray started in all 32 matches as a middle blocker and earned a 2017 All-Big Ten Honorable Mention for her play during the season.
At Alcobendas, Murray will find a team that finished its last season with a 10-12 record, good enough for 9th place in the standings. However, the Spanish league is more competitive than the Austrian league, so a move now, even if to a non-contending team, will be better for Murray’s career development in the long-run.
