Hancock, Oxford, OLA win volleyball state titles

JACKSON — Hancock, Oxford and Our Lady Academy took home top honors October 29th in the MHSAA/Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi State Volleyball Championship at Millsaps College’s Hangar Dome.

In Class III, Hancock defeated Oak Grove 25-27, 25-17, 18-25, 25-21 and 15-11 in a five-set thriller for its second title and first since 2009. The Lady Hawks finished 36-3. The Lady Warriors — who dethroned defending champion DeSoto Central in the semifinals October 28th — ended 32-9.

In Class II, Oxford defeated two-time defending champion Lewisburg 25-11, 25-19 and 25-15 for the school’s first volleyball championship. The Lady Chargers finished 31-5. The Lady Patriots ended 26-13.

In Class I, OLA defeated Resurrection 25-22, 25-21 and 25-10 for a fifth consecutive championship and 11th since 2002. The Crescents finished 33-7. The Lady Eagles ended 22-8 in pursuit of their first volleyball championship.
