Hawaii def. UC Riverside 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-17)

Hawaii earned its 4th in in a row and its 2nd consecutive sweep with a 3-0 victory over UC Riverside in Honolulu Saturday evening. The Rainbow Wahine outperformed the Highlanders in attack percentage (.184 to -.022) and served up 7 aces to record the one-sided win.

In the first set, Hawaii broke a string of 8 ties with a dominant 10-0 run to reach match points 24-14. The Highlanders scored once more, but the Rainbow Wahine notched the 25-15 win with a Casey Castillo kill.

Hawaii continued to carry the momentum in the second set, opening with a 6-0 stretch. UC Riverside was able to cut the deficit down to 2, however, could not get over the hump as the Rainbow Wahine used a 7-1 stretch to create enough separation to secure the 25-19 win.

It was another strong start for the Rainbow Wahine in the third set, as Hawaii pulled ahead 6-2. The Highlanders fought back and knotted the score 7-all, but were unable to hold off their opponent, who used an 11-3 push to pull ahead and eventually earn the sweep with a 25-17 victory.

Norene Iosia posted a team-high 8 kills, while distributing 10 assists and notching 8 digs for Hawaii. Faith Ma’afala posted 19 assists and 9 digs.

Yuliya Ushakova recorded 7 kills to lead the Highlanders. Chelsea Doyle tallied 19 assists and 9 digs.

Hawaii (4-0) and 15th-ranked Cal Poly (5-0) are tied atop league standings with undefeated records, followed by UC Irvine, which is 2-1 thus far.
