As Houston and the rest of southeast Texas continue to recover from the historic floods brought down by Hurricane Harvey and its remnants, St. Thomas University in Houston has cancelled its first 5 home volleyball games.

The team was scheduled to play its first home match on August 30th against Texas Wesleyan University. Texas Wesleyan will have distractions of their own this weekend, where they will play their first football game since the team was disbanded in 1941 at the American entrance to World War II.

While the St. Thomas campus avoided significant flooding or damage, 15 of the team’s 16 players are from Texas, and many are dealing with flooding in their homes or the homes of their families.

In all, the school has cancelled matches against Texas Wesleyan, Ave Maria University, Loyola University, Mid America Christian, and Southwest Christian University. They will open their home season on September 12th against Southwestern University at 6 PM.

St. Thomas competes in the NAIA and finished last season with a 17-16 record, including a 9-3 record at home.
