Former middle blocker from the University of Iowa, Ashley Mariani has signed a contract to play volleyball for VfB Suhl LOTTO Thuringen for the 2017 season. The club is located in Suhl, Germany.
“I have decided to further my career as a volleyball player by going pro,” said Mariani. “I am more than excited for these opportunities to go experience and submerge myself in new cultures.”
Mariani started her collegiate career with Tennessee University in 2013. As a freshman in 2013, Mariani played and started in all 32 matches for the Lady Vols. That year she posted 292 kills, 121 digs, 44 blocks and five aces. Her 292 kills lead the team, as well as in attempts with 972. As a sophomore, Mariani played in all 32 matches and started in 29. She ranked fourth on the team in kills with 186 on 1.75 kills per set and 11 aces.
After two seasons with Tennessee, Mariani made the switch to Iowa, to where she started in all 33 matches and played in all 115 sets. Mariani led the team with 32 aces and registered 221 kills on a .214 hitting percentage. As a senior, Mariani once again appeared in all 32 matches and 110 sets played, posting 221 kills and 71 blocks.
Mariani will join VfB Suhl LOTTO in early September, but first making a stop in Taipei, Taiwan from August 18-30 to represent Team USA at the World University Games.
