2017 Taipei Summer Universiade (World University Games) – Men’s Tournament

Just like yesterday’s FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championships, where Iran and Russia battled for gold, tomorrow’s Universiade’s Finals will pit the two Asian teams against each other. Can Iran upset the Russians one more time, and once again come out on top? Below, you’ll find updated brackets and recaps from all of yesterday’s action, including Team USA’s win against Australia in the fight for 17th place.

Iran beat Ukraine 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-22) behind Saeid Shiroodghorbani’s nine points. Maksym Drozd also had nine points, but in the losing effort.

Russia beat Japan 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-22) behind Dmitry Shcherbinin’s and Anton Botin’s 12 points. Takahiko Imamura had 11 points in the losing effort.

Brazil beat the Czech Republic 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 25-20, 25-21) behind Lailson Santos’s 23 points. Martin Hladik had 27 points in the losing effort.

Argentina beat Portugal 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-19) behind Federico Martina‘s 16 points. Afonso Guerreiro had 16 in the losing effort.

9th–16th places Recap

France beat Canada 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-16, 25-22) behind Timothee Carle’s 22 points. Lucas Coleman had 15 points in the losing effort.

Switzerland beat hosts Taipei 3-1 (30-28, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20) behind Lucas Ulrich’s 20 points. Tsung-Huan Wu had 18 points in the losing effort.
