A key addition in an effort to add depth and talent to their roster, the IUPUI volleyball team and head coach Steve Payne have announced the addition of junior-transfer Maggie Gibson to the roster.  Gibson joins the Jags out of the University of Indianapolis, where she was a former conference freshman of the year.

Gibson transfers to IUPUI after competing in two season at UIndy.  As a member of the Greyhounds, Gibson played multiple positions and primarily saw time as a setter.  She was named the 2015 GLVC Freshman of the Year after playing in 23 matches with 21 starts.  That season, she tossed the second-most assists in program history by a freshman with 810, averaging 10.25 per set.  She had six matches in which she recorded 50 or more assists and tallied 13 double-doubles.

The following season, Gibson started the year as the team’s libero, recording a career-high 24 digs before switching back to setter.  She upped her average to 10.86 assists per set in the team’s final six matches, resuming the role as the team’s primary setter after emerging from a two-setter system.

Gibson played her high school ball at Mishawaka Marian High School, where she was twice named a First-Team All-Conference selection and the 2014 Northern Indiana Conference MVP.  While there, she was a two-time Indiana All-Star and Second-Team All-State her junior season.  Gibson’s efforts helped lead her team to back-to-back conference, sectional, and regional championships her junior and senior seasons.

Gibson will join a Jaguars team that saw the departure of both its starting setter and the program’s most accomplished middle blocker as Alexis Mapes and Logan Walling both completed their senior seasons.  The Jags will bring back two-time All-Summit League selection Kori Waelbroeck and All-Tournament selection Gabby Fisher.
