Kentucky’s Leah Edmond Earns 2017’s Final AVCA Player Of The Week

In two sweeps this week, Kentucky’s Leah Edmond stood out and has been tabbed 2017’s final AVCA Player of the Week. The Wildcats took on Arkansas and Georgia to claim their first SEC title since 1988, sharing the honor with Florida this season.

Against Arkansas, Edmond put down 21 kills, breaking Kentucky’s program record for kills in a three-set match while hitting for .452 with just two errors on 42 attempts. She followed up this performance with her sixth double-double of the season against Georgia with 15 kills and 11 digs on a .389 hitting performance.

Edmond’s performances lead her to put down an average of 6.5 kills per set on a .423 hitting clip while picking up 2.67 digs per set as well.

The Wildcats went 26-3 this season and picked up the #4 seed in the NCAA Tournament in as a wildcard choice. On the year, Edmond has out down 465 kills on a .323 hitting clip along with 36 aces. On the defensive end, Edmond picked up 204 digs during the regular season and 55 blocks.

Edmond is just the third player to garner the honor from Kentucky and first in seven years as Lauren Rapp took home the honor on November 16, 2010. Krista Robinson was the
