Lauren Carlini Unhampered by Ankle Injury in Wisconsin Win

Two-time First-Team All-American setter Lauren Carlini didn’t appear to have any issues with an ankle injury as she set the Badgers to a 3-0 sweep of Washington State on Friday evening.

In the team’s first-round matchup against Howard University on Thursday, Carlini had to come out of the game briefly in the second set to get her ankle re-taped. After the trainers got her re-taped, she didn’t appear to have any problems, but it is something worth keeping an eye on as the tournament goes on. In 2014, Carlini’s sophomore year, she suffered a serious ankle injury in the first set of the team’s Elite Eight game against Penn State that she was unable to return from.

“Apparently she did something in practice early in the week, which was kind of news to me and to our training staff, she kind of re-tweaked it,” head coach Kelly Sheffield said. “We’ll find out, but she said it was no big deal, it was just something that needed tape.”

If called upon, Wisconsin’s backup setter is redshirt junior Jordan Robbins, who stepped in for 8 points against Howard. That was just her 3rd game of the season.

Below, watch an interview from after the Washington State game, where the ankle injury wasn’t discussed.
