The AVCA has announced Lindsey Wilson’s Makenzie Montano as NAIA Player of the Year after helping the Blue Raiders to their first-ever national title. Montano will be formally awarded on December 15 in Kansas City, Missouri in conjunction with the 2017 AVCA Convention and 2017 NCAA Division I Tournament.
This season, Montano produced an average of 11.6 assists per set to lead her team to a .333 hitting clip on the year. Additionally, Montano recorded 142 kills, 2.5 digs per set and 0.51 blocks per set. Montano’s 11.6 assists per set and .333 team mark ranked her second nationally.
In addition to earning the AVCA Player of the Year, Montano has garnered a slew of other honors this season:
- AVCA Southeast Player of the year (second time in career, second straight)
- AVCA All-Region Team (three times in career)
- AVCA NAIA First Team All-American
- CoSIDA All-District 2 Team
- MSC First Team
- Five conference awards this season, 15 in her career
- National Tournament MVP
Montano led the Blue Raiders to an undefeated 35-0 season, which was capped off by claiming the NAIA Championship for the first time in school history. The Lindsey Wilson senior class produced an impressive 142-11 record over their four-year careers, with a 56-0 home mark.
