- Palais des Sports de Pau, Pau, France
- Schedule/Results
Following the first victory in four tries for the U.S. Men’s National Team yesterday against Italy, they’ll look to ignite a winning streak as they take on Russia.
The United States won their match yesterday in straight sets, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23, in what was a rematch of the 2016 Rio Olympic semifinals. Italy won that 2016 rendition 3-2 as the United States took the bronze with Italy taking the silver. Ben Patch had a match high 14 points in the match. The victory gave the U.S. its first of World League as they moved up from 12th (of 12 teams) to 10th in the standings.
The match against Russia will be a rematch of the Bronze medal match from the 2016 Olympic games. The United States won that match after trailing two sets to one and eventually winning the fifth set 15-13.
The Russian side comes into this one with the same mark as the U.S. at 1-3, as both countries have four points. Russia sits in 9th after falling in four sets to France yesterday. With the loss, Russia’s form is trending down as they’ve lost three in a row after they opened with a 3-0 win against Argentina last week.
With both of these teams near the bottom of the standings, one will remain while the other will come out of the match with more hope of finding a spot toward the Final Six.
United States vs. Russia starts at 11:30 Eastern Time in the U.S., and can be watched, for free, in its entirety below:
