After posting some impressive numbers after this weekend’s matches, Long Beach State’s TJ DeFalco earns the AVCA Player of the Week honor.

The 49ers took on BYU this weekend, losing in five in the first match, while dominating in the second with a sweep. Overall on the week, DeFalco averaged 4.75 kills per set on a .338 hitting percentage while also picking up 2.25 digs per set and 0.62 blocks per set. He slammed down a total of 38 kills and 42.5 points on the week.

In the teams first match against the Cougars, DeFalco recorded his third double-double of the season with a season-best 25 kills on a .340 hitting percentage and 14 digs. In the following match, DeFalco was able to contribute another 13 kills on a .333 hitting clip.

DeFalco helped the 49ers to a first place slot in the MPSF – needing just one more conference win or a BYU loss to clinch the #1 position and home court advantage come MPSF tournament time.

The AVCA Player of the Week honor is the 28th in program history, with the most recently dating back to Kyle Ensing on January 24. The honor marks DeFalco’s second honor in his playing career, with the first coming last season on January 19, 2016.
